In 1980 Jim and Sarah Brady had it all. They had challenging and influential jobs and a family life filled with love and happiness. Then, in 1981, their world was shattered when a bullet meant for President Regan hit Jim. Jim and Sarah fought against the doctor's fatal predictions. With unswerving determination, Sarah served as Jim's anchor, as "the wind beneath his wings."

Today, Sarah is the chief spokesperson and National Chairperson of Handgun Control, the national citizens lobbying organization working to enact sensible gun policies.

Since 1987, Sarah has continually battled against such giants as the National Rifle Association and the U.S. Congress, for the passage of the Brady Bill. Because of her untiring efforts, the Brady Bill became law in 1993.

Sarah has been named "Washingtonian of the Year" in 1983 by Washingtonian Magazine; "USO Woman of the Year" in 1984 and one of Ms. Magazine's "Women if the Year" in 1988. Sarah received the "Communicator of the Year" award from the League of Women Voters.
