Author of "In Defense of Food" and "The Omnivore's Dilemma"
Michael Pollan's most recent book, Food Rules: An Eater's Manual, was an immediate #1 New York Times bestseller upon publication. A condensed version of his previous works, it provides a simple framework for healthy and sustainable living. Pollan has also won multiple awards for his books, In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto and The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals, which was named one of the ten best books of 2006 by the New York Times and the Washington Post. He is a leading authority on how to eat and live sustainably, and is a staunch critic of modern American agribusiness.
Pollan was named one of Time Magazine's "Time 100"? in the Thinkers category in 2010 and one of the top 10 "New Thought Leaders"? by Newsweek Magazine in 2009. His articles have been featured in the New York Times Magazine, Newsweek Magazine, Harper's, Vogue, and The Nation, and have won numerous awards, including the James Beard Award for best magazine series in 2003 and the Humane Society of the United States' Genesis Award.
In 2003, Pollan was appointed the John S. and James L. Knight Professor of Journalism at UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism, and the director of the Knight Program in Science and Environmental Journalism. A graduate of Bennington College, Oxford University, and Columbia University, his writing and dedicated advocacy in support of new agricultural methods and more considered use of our natural resources is leading a new generation of environmentally conscious Americans.
