Laura D'Andrea Tyson
National Economic Advisor
President Clinton appointed Laura D'Andrea Tyson as his national Economic Advisor on February 21, 1995. She had previously served as the chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisors and as a member of the President's Cabinet since February, 1993. She is a principal member of both the President's National Security Council and his Domestic Policy Council.
Dr. Tyson is currently professor of economics and business administration at the University of California at Berkeley. She was also director of the Institute of International Studies, and research director of the Berkeley Roundtable on the International Economy (BRIE). She received a BA summa cum laude from Smith College in 1969 and a PhD in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1974.

Dr. Tyson has written a number of other books and articles on the economics of competitiveness. She has also written extensively on the economies of Eastern Europe. Dr. Tyson is a member of the Cuomo Commission on Trade and Competitiveness, The Advisory Board of the Economic Strategy Institute, the Economic Policy Institute Research Council and the Council on Foreign Relations. She was a member of the Los Angeles Times Board of Economists from 1989-1992.
