The recipient of seven Emmys and five Golden Globes, Ed Asner is perhaps best known for his comedic and dramatic portrayal of Lou Grant on the Mary Tyler Moore Show- the grumpy newspaper boss with a heart of gold. Asner starred in the dramatic series, Lou Grant and delivered award winning performances in Rich Man, Poor Man and in Roots. Asner is past president of the Screen Actors Guild and was inducted into the TV Academy Hall of Fame in 1996.
