John Hodgman is an author, actor, and humorist, most famous for his frequent appearances alongside John Stewart on The Daily Show and for his role as the nerdy personification of a PC in Apple's "Get a Mac" advertising campaign. Ironically, Hodgman has been a Mac user since 1984.
As The Daily Show's "Resident Expert," Hodgman has offered commentary on subjects as diverse as the economy, net neutrality, reptiloids, time travel, elitism, and headlice, His other television appearances include roles on Flight of the Concords, Bored to Death and Battlestar Galatica.
Apart from the many fake books Hodgman has advertised on The Daily Show, scholars agree he has actually written three real books. His first book and accompanying audio narration, The Areas of My Expertise, published in 2005, is a satirical tongue-in-cheek almanac that actually contains almost no factual information but instead includes details about the great lobster conspiracy, hoboes, nine US presidents who had hooks for hands, and how to win a fight. His second book, 2008's More Information Than You Require, picks up where his first left off (literally "“ it starts on page 257), and his third, That Is All, follows suit, beginning on page 596 and completing Hodgman's trilogy of complete world knowledge, just in time for the return of Quetzalcoatl and the end of human history in 2012.
Hodgman's writings have been published in One Story (to which he contributed the debut story), The Paris Review, McSweeney's Quarterly Concern, Wired and The New York Times Magazine, for which he is editor of the humor section. He contributes to Public Radio International's This American Life, and CBC Radio One's Wiretap.
Additionally, Hodgman has worked as a cheesemonger, traffic counter, mustache advocate, advice columnist, journalist and personal computer.
